 SHIPLEY

Shipley is a small industrial and residential town situated 3 miles northwest of Bradford in the modern County of West Yorkshire, England. Prior to 1974, when the county administration of the historical county of the West Riding of Yorkshire was abolished, Shipley was an independent Urban District Council. Following the reorganization of local government at this time, Shipley, like many other small towns in the area, was incorporated into the newly created Bradford Metropolitan District.

The following pages will show something of the history of Shipley and its people
